Just Writing: If I were a plot conflict...

If I were a compelling main story conflict, where would I be hiding?

Under a rock, in a deep cave where gnomes and goblins vie for land in an endless war?

Below the water, somewhere dark and cold, where ships can't go and the only things that live are blind and ghostly and constantly searching for their next meal?

On a great mountaintop, guarded by an ancient sage who requires only that you are spiritually prepared to receive its gift, but proving that you are ready is the greatest struggle of all?

Or maybe it's in a small cabin, somewhere in the mountains of North Carolina, written in the old leather journal of a widow who's seen too many long lonely winters and labored too many dry summers?

Perhaps it's on the battlefield of a uprising in a feudal land, where a tyrannical lord is soon to be overthrown by his own servants, led by a young woman seeking a personal vengence?

Maybe it's hiding below an old bridge in the Irish countryside, guarded by a tired troll who wants nothing more than for someone to finally answer his riddle so he may pass the burden along to someone else?

Maybe it's just beyond the door of a coffee shop in Salt Lake City, Utah, waiting for a confused young writer to stumble upon it while he sips his second cup of tea...maybe.
